ANCCER, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, values your trust and is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through anccer.org, how and why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Please also review our Terms of Service, which governs your use of our site.

This Privacy Policy applies to anccer.org and the community, research, and communication features it provides. By using the site or providing us your information, you agree to the practices described here.

Personal Information We Collect

What we collect depends on how you use the site. The categories below cover every way anccer.org gathers information about you.

Account and Profile Information. If you register for an account, we collect your name, email address, username, password, and any profile details you choose to add, such as a photo, bio, or areas of interest.

Community Content You Share. Our community areas — forums, discussion groups, activity feeds, and comments — let members share their own experiences, including, if they choose, information about their relationship to cancer. Anything you post in these public or group areas is visible to other members (and, depending on the area, the public) and is governed by our Terms of Service. We do not require you to disclose health or diagnosis information to use the site; any such information you share in community areas is voluntary.

Donation and Payment Information. Donations made through anccer.org are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. We retain your name, donation amount, and transaction history to send receipts and maintain our records; we do not store your full card number, which is handled directly by Stripe under its own security standards and privacy practices.

Communications and Preferences. If you contact us, register for an event, volunteer, or sign up for email updates, we collect the contact information and preferences needed to respond and to send you relevant communications.

Research Hub Activity. When you search, follow topics, or view recommendations in our Research Hub, we log that activity — searches performed, articles or trials viewed, and recommendations clicked — in our own systems, to improve search relevance and personalize what we show you. This information is not sold or shared with the research data sources themselves (PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, NCI, or NIH), which we query only to retrieve public research content.

Device and Usage Information. Like most websites, we automatically collect technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring page, generally through cookies and similar technologies.

Cookies and Advertising Technologies

We use Google’s advertising and analytics tools (Google tag / Google Ads) on anccer.org to measure the effectiveness of our donation, newsletter signup, and contact pages, and this may involve cookies that Google uses for conversion tracking and analytics. We do not use Facebook Pixel or similar tools. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage how Google personalizes ads to you through your Google Account’s ad settings.

  • Processing donations: completing your transaction, sending receipts, and maintaining accurate financial records.

  • Improving our services: understanding how the site is used so we can fix problems and build better features.
  • Complying with the law: responding to valid legal requests and meeting our obligations as a nonprofit organization.

How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell your Personal Information, and we do not share donor mailing lists with other organizations for their own marketing purposes. We share information only as follows:

  • Service providers who operate the site on our behalf, including our hosting provider, Stripe (donation processing), Amazon SES and WP Mail SMTP (email delivery), and Google (advertising analytics as described above). These providers may only use your information to perform services for us.
  • Other community members, to the extent you post content in public or group areas of the site.
  • Legal and safety reasons, including to comply with a subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ANCCER, our community, or the public.
